These instructions are based on How to Install and Configure Samba on CentOS 8.:
Several alterations have been made from the guide and are described below.
- sudo dnf install samba samba-common samba-client
- sudo mv /etc/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.con.bak
- sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf
[global]
workgroup = WIN20190
server string = Samba Server %v
netbios name = centos8
security = user
map to guest = bad user
dns proxy = no
- sudo systemctl start smb
- sudo systemctl enable smb
- sudo systemctl status smb
- sudo systemctl start nmb
- sudo systemctl enable nmb
- sudo systemctl status nmb
- sudo groupadd cleoagent
- sudo useradd -g cleoagent cleo100
- sudo useradd -g cleoagent cleo200
- sudo mkdir -p /srv/samba/secure_share
- sudo mkdir -p /srv/samba/secure_share/source
- sudo mkdir -p /srv/samba/secure_share/dest
- sudo chmod -R 0775 /srv/samba/secure_share
- sudo chown -R root:secure_group /srv/samba/secure_share
- sudo smbpasswd -a cleo100
Password@1 - sudo smbpasswd -a cleo200
Password@2 - sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf
[secured]
path = /srv/samba/secure_share
valid users = @cleoagent
guest ok = no
writable = yes
browsable = yes
- reboot centos8 machine
- test read and write access by logging in on Windows win2019-2 machine File Explorer \\192.168.1.20\secured\
